After reading this book, I am thinking here of the old saw to the effect that God protects children and idiots. Having come of age during that amazing period from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, when one could hitch-hike practically anywhere safely—before the crazies and serial-killers became so common—this book brought back so many wonderful memories of what it was like during that period just to pick up stakes and go see part of the world, albeit a part…..
