Tim Carey was born and raised in central Africa before moving to the UK and subsequently emigrating to Canada. He had difficulty posting his review below on Amazon, and said he would have given it 5 stars.
It’s a long time since I left my roots in Central Africa, but reading Craig Harrison’s book “Dreams of a Vanishing Africa” brought memories flooding back with his descriptions of people, places and related experiences that he encountered as he travelled through west, central, and east African countries in the 1970s. These are recounted in vivid and authentic details that make one feel you are there sharing the journey with him. I especially liked his use of the present tense throughout, which brings a sense of immediacy to his writing. This is a must-have book for all people having an interest in Africa and its history. I would also like to see the photographic journal of his trip if he ever publishes it.
